Pirated Copies Of Windows 7 Is On The Go In India

by Technology Update on November 4, 2009

pirated windowsTimes India one of the most popular New journal in India reported that Windows 7 pirated version is already for sale on may parts of India. Its been reported that in Lucknow alone (which is a tiny city in northern part of India) nearly 50,000 copies of windows 7 pirated DVDs has been sold already for a price of about only 100 rupees a copy which only equals to $2 so that sums up to more than $100,000 which goes in to the pockets of people who sell these illegal copies of windows.

What adds to the pain for Microsoft people is that Lucknow is not even a more sophisticated city where you can find a lot of IT based companies, so just imagine the case with other metropolitan cities like Chennai, Mumbai etc.. where the number of people who use computers are way more than Lucknow.

People think if Microsoft can bring down the price of windows they will go ahead and purchase a legal copy instead of a pirated copy which is illegal, and also I really think why can’t Microsoft release an Indian version of Windows 7 giving to consumers of India for a special price just like they give some concessions for students in UK and US ? it will surely convert those money those goes in to illegal copies of windows to profits, but I don’t know the exact stats on how many legal copies of windows are being sold in India and how much profits they make out of it and under what calculations they set the prices so we cannot just comment over things with limited vision we have on the whole issue but still Microsoft can try to bring up some plans to attract more customers in India.

There are a lot of people in India who still think cost of windows or any other applications and softwares are just $2, they have no idea that the copies of software they buy from these street shops are illegal and legal copies will cost way more.
